About Us
Welcome to our Long Beach CYO basketball and volleyball program, where families and volunteers come together to give young athletes a season built on faith, teamwork, and good sportsmanship. Each year, our basketball program fields over 30 boys' and girls' teams — more than 350 players — thanks to the time and dedication of 40 volunteer coaches. Our volleyball program adds another 12 teams and 165 players, supported by 17 volunteer coaches.
None of this happens without the parents and volunteers who step up to coach, organize, and cheer from the sidelines — we're grateful for every one of you.
As part of CYO of Long Island tradition, the home team leads both teams in prayer before every contest. It's a small moment that sets the tone for the whole game, reminding players, coaches, and parents alike that how we compete matters as much as the score:
Athlete's Prayer
God, let me play well but fairly,
Help me to learn something that matters once the game is over.
Let competition make me strong but never hostile.
Always let me help my opponent up.
Never catch me rejoicing in the adversity of others.
If I know victory, allow me to be happy;
if I am denied, keep me from envy.
Remind me that sports are just games.
If through athletics I set an example, let it be a good one.
Whether you're a longtime volunteer or considering coaching for the first time, thank you for being part of what makes this program work.
